RépondreEffacerJust as in Canada, the prostitution industry in SEA is complex. Most of the prostitution is for locals, not tourists. Many bar girls are looking for husbands, and don't even consider themselves prostitutes - that's what they call women who can't choose their partners/customers!
Many of the men retiring in countries like Thailand are fairly pathetic creatures. Find old guys wearing white socks to their knee under sandals. Watch them carefully. Do you see how many have tremors? Can you tell which ones are poor pensioners that could barely afford to go out in their home country? Are there signs of depression? Yes, they're losers. A bit of compassion could go a long way in helping them.
You should know some of the girls are also predators, stringing along several boyfriends at once, each sending money every month to make sure she doesn't have to work in bars anymore.
It's a messed up situation. Hopefully their economic situation improves and more women aren't forced into sex work. If you want to help solve the problem, that's an area worth investigating.
